As a building inspector carrying out many building inspections in Marlee 2429 i have dealt with many buyers looking for an inspection for a house they are intending to purchase. I have with interest looked at the reasons they choose to hire this inspector or that inspector. Or i have tried to.

There are inspection businesses popping up that charge hundreds of dollars less than the going rate of $400-$500 for a combined pest and building inspection.  They don’t usually stay round long.

Out of curiosity one day I called one of these guys to ask a few questions: The one that stuck in my mind is this one:

Me: How long does an inspection take as I’ll need to arrange the time?

Guy on phone: About 30 minutes mate, we won’t hold you up.

I said I’d get back to him but I was left wondering how on earth you can do a decent building and pest inspection on a house in Marlee 2429 in only 30 minutes. You cant!

So if you’re price shopping inspectors, please look beyond the cost and pick an inspector on their experience, insurance, location, references  or all the above, anything except price only.
